Warped Universe has officially entered Early Access as a free-to-play title, now available on both Epic Games Store (web3 support) and Steam. The launch introduces players to a cooperative sci-fi looter shooter built around a shared, season-based progression system that emphasizes collective impact across its player base.

At launch, Early Access includes co-op ground combat and space exploration for teams of one to four players, alongside a central social hub and a “seasonal solar system” structure. This system allows the community to unlock new planets and content collaboratively by completing objectives tied to planetary facilities. Multiple mission approaches are supported, with both real-time action and turn-based tactical modes available across combat scenarios.
Developed independently by a 12-person team with prior experience on titles such as Jumpgate, Auto Assault, LEGO Universe, and Dragons & Titans, Warped Universe enters the market without a publisher, positioning its Early Access phase as a foundation for iterative development.
A Co-op Shooter Built on Shared Progression
Warped Universe is structured as a cooperative PvE experience set in a sci-fi universe threatened by a spreading force known as the Void. Players deploy to corrupted planets, where they fight through hostile environments, secure resources, and complete mission objectives.
A central design pillar is its “meta-driven” progression system. Actions taken during missions, such as extracting resources called Residuum, feed into larger planetary objectives. Once completed, these objectives unlock permanent buffs that apply globally to all players, not just the squad responsible.
This shared progression extends across seasonal cycles, with hundreds of objectives contributing to the gradual expansion of the playable universe. Discovering new planets, activating facilities, and defending key points all influence the broader state of the game world.
Gameplay blends familiar elements from co-op shooters and tactical RPGs. The real-time combat loop draws comparisons to Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, and Warframe, while optional turn-based systems echo titles like XCOM 2. Space traversal and exploration also play a role, with navigation through asteroid fields and large-scale environments forming part of the gameplay loop.
Players can customize their “Echo Suit” using collected resources, balancing personal progression with contributions to the wider community’s advancement.
Optional Blockchain Integration via Cosmetic Collectibles
Warped Universe incorporates blockchain elements in a limited and optional capacity. The game uses the Sui network to support ownership of cosmetic digital collectibles, which are not tied to gameplay advantages.
These items can be purchased via the Epic Games version of the game through a third-party payment provider, Xsolla, rather than directly through the platform storefront. Epic Games does not process or manage these transactions.
The blockchain integration is designed to provide optional Web3 ownership flexibility. Players can choose to keep items off-chain within a built-in game vault system or move them on-chain for potential trading on external marketplaces. Importantly, no external wallet is required to play the game, and users can engage fully with Warped Universe without interacting with blockchain systems at all.
The Sui network operates on a proof-of-stake consensus model, which the developers highlight as a more energy-efficient alternative to proof-of-work systems. However, its role within Warped Universe remains strictly limited to cosmetic ownership, with no pay-to-win mechanics attached.
With its Early Access launch, Warped Universe introduces a hybrid model that combines cooperative shooter gameplay, community-driven progression, and optional web3 features. Its long-term reception will likely depend on how effectively it balances these systems while expanding content during its seasonal development roadmap.
