Civitas is an upcoming free-to-play* large-scale, cross-platform (PC, mobile, web) 4X massively multiplayer online civilization simulator or strategy game by Directive Games, focusing on city-building, social collaboration, and strategic development. Drawing inspiration from established world-building and economy-focused titles such as Civilization and EVE Online, it enables participants to collectively shape evolving societies within a persistent virtual environment. Players develop land, manage resources, and make decisions that influence the growth and prosperity of their civilizations, whether through cooperation or competition. Additionally, Civitas integrates blockchain technology (Ethereum) to record and secure ownership of optional game-related digital assets earned or purchased by players such as NFTs (e.g. land, avatars, items) and cryptocurrency ($CITI).
*The free-to-play aspect of Civitas is embodied in the Nomad role. Nomads can explore the world, participate in all augmented reality (AR) mechanics, complete mini-games, and collect resources while having opportunities to earn tokens and NFTs. They do not benefit from city-based passive bonuses but retain ownership of what they earn and can trade freely on the market. Nomads can upgrade their free land and eventually transition to full citizenship by acquiring land, bringing along all structures and assets obtained during their free-to-play journey.

Game Features
- Collaborative Civilization Building: Players collectively construct and expand virtual societies, working with thousands of others to create functioning civilizations through cooperation or strategic competition.
- Dynamic World Simulation: The game world evolves based on players’ decisions, influencing economic systems, diplomatic relations, and overall world development.
- City Management & Urban Development: Cities can be founded and expanded by incorporating surrounding land tiles. Urban growth depends on construction planning, resource management, and the well-being of the population.
- Land & Resource Progression: Land is structured in tiers, with higher-tier plots offering enhanced resource yields and greater developmental potential. Players can improve, trade, or acquire these lands to strengthen their economies.
- Population & Happiness Systems: Citizens and families inhabit player-controlled territories, performing work and influencing productivity. Their satisfaction directly impacts the success and stability of the settlement.
- Leadership & Strategic Roles: A designated “Chosen” character can guide economic or military advancement, improving building efficiency or leading armies in conflict, emphasizing the importance of strategic leadership.
- City Integration & Influence Mechanics: Land owned by players can be linked to cities governed by a central City Tower, which determines the extent of urban influence and expansion as it levels up.
- Social Organization & Citizenship: Individuals may claim citizenship within cities, contributing to collective decision-making, development planning, and community growth.
- Diplomacy & Competitive Interaction: Participants can form alliances for mutual benefit or engage in tactical confrontations to assert dominance, shaping intercity relations and power balances.
- Strategic Decision-Making: Player choices—from economic agreements to military campaigns—carry lasting consequences for their civilizations, reinforcing the importance of foresight and governance in shaping outcomes.

Blockchain Integration
Civitas aims to feature some form of decentralized governance using DAO protocols, a partially player-owned economy where players can effectively own and trade various game-related digital assets (e.g. land, avatars, items, cryptocurrency) outside of the game, using smart contracts built on the Ethereum blockchain to record and secure transactions and ownership thereof. The game integrates its own upcoming cryptocurrency, $CITI, which is to be used as a premium in-game currency, medium of exchange, and governance token. Civitas is not open source. While ownership of digital assets is decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game in the event that its online service is prematurely shut down.

Ownable (NFTs)

Cryptocurrency
$CITI is the native token of the Civitas ecosystem, serving as both an in-game currency and a governance asset within decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO). It underpins the game’s economy by enabling transactions, rewards, and participatory decision-making across its ecosystem.
