CCP Games, the studio behind the long-running space MMO EVE Online, has announced a 10-day free trial for its upcoming project EVE Frontier. The announcement follows news that the game will integrate with the Sui blockchain, a move that signals CCP’s ambition to create what it calls a “player-owned, forever universe.”
EVE Frontier is being developed as a spiritual successor to EVE Online, designed to preserve the vast, sandbox-driven essence of the original while introducing new technical foundations. CCP aims for a world where players and developers have lasting influence over a shared universe that can evolve over time.
Sui Blockchain Integration Announcement
Announcement of EVE Frontier integrating the Sui blockchain came on October 8th. The Sui network, developed by Mysten Labs, is a blockchain architecture purpose-built for gaming. It’s designed to handle real-time performance demands, such as large-scale multiplayer battles and complex, player-driven economies—key features at the heart of EVE Frontier.
According to CCP, Sui’s technology provides the framework to enable both players and third-party creators to contribute directly to the game world. This could include modding tools, custom assets, and economic systems that persist beyond traditional server constraints.
Full integration with Sui is scheduled for 2026, placing the current trial within the early stages of EVE Frontier’s rollout. While the blockchain component adds a new layer of ownership and persistence, CCP has yet to detail how these systems will interact with the core gameplay experience.
Exploring the Frontier: Live Streams and Q&A Events
To coincide with the free trial, EVE Frontier is hosting Frontier Friday today, October 17, with a live session on Twitch. And, On Monday 20th at 3 PM UTC, EVE Frontier will be hosting a joint Q&A featuring members of the EVE Frontier and Sui teams, based on questions gathered from our Builders community.
